Fusion guitar aficionados will be cranking their amps and straining to emulate the work of Richie & Antti (guitarists Richard Hallebeek and Antti Kotikoski) on Generator (Legato 1013-2; 52:54), which boasts lean and mean, all-over-the-guitar, 'how did they do that' arrangements. Add to the mix world class guests like Carl Verheyen (who adds a searing, blue edge to 'Dirt'),Frank Gambale and Scott Henderson, and you have the potential for some truely twisted guitar duels -an expectation which is more then fulfilled.

The 'Technique Appeal' is high on compositions like 'Seven Days' and playful on 'Persian Rug' but the odd time-shifts and melodic meanderings may prove a bit esoteric for those accustomed to simpler song structures.

However, the soaring harmonies and stomping swing groove of 'Swang Thang' and the gentle, bright harmonic fest 'Music For Runyon Canyon' hold a more universal appeal.
